Still on ikan bakar moode. Today lunch was Ikan Bakar with Sayur Bayam Air, sambal belacan and sambal kicap for our important guest, Mr's Mak Long (Aunt) Mak Long has been wanting to eat Ikan Terubuk Bakar. Not many vendor selling this fish and happened to saw one vendor selling this at Marsiling Market today. Pounded a fresh batch of sambal belacan and we are set. Ps : anybody knows what's the English name for terubuk? Oh my.. Magnolia Carrot Cupcake is so yummy. I don't really like their vanilla cuppies ..but their carrot cake cuppy is oh la la. It is moist with good balance of sweetness, spices and tartness from the creamcheese frosting. I also like that bits of shredded pieces of carrot and raisins unlike some bakery who used finely grated carrots. I wish I could bring back a box for my family but don't think the cuppy can survive the long journey home. Lincoln Tunnel Enclosed spaces makes me nervous. Anytime longer than the expected time I need to be in enclosed spaces can put in on panic mode. Which is why I hate airplanes, lifts, windowless rooms, subways and tunnels especially when I know that the tunnel runs below river. Perfect sunny day for picnic. Central Park is huge. Strolled down the beautifully landscaped grounds, ride a bike or rent a boat if you wish. Remember to hydrate yourself with loads of H20 and sunblock. I lather myself with big amount and still got tanned. Please stay away from the horse carriage ride will you. The horses look so pitiful, sad and tired 😢. We explored Chelsea and Greenwich Village neighbourhood yesterday and passed by some streets paved with cobblestone and lined with beautiful brownstone townhouses. Traffic was low at some of the streets so it was pretty quiet. You can almost imagine carriages passing by with giggling tons going for tea parties eating dainty cucumber sandwiches. Most of the cobblestones streets were now slowly being replaced with asphalt as it is expensive to maintain which is true. Too bad I cut short the walk as I was not feeling too. Chelsea Market is an indoor market and foodcourt selling gourmet spices, deli, jams, bakes you name it. So many things to see until I have no idea where to start. The last time we came here a couple of years back was during winter and we came too early hence we missed all the actions. Today we came around lunch time. It was packed with locals and tourist alike either lunching in or take aways. Also locals doing some groceries shopping. If you are a jam lover, stop by Sarabeth and grab one. My personal favourite is Orange and Apricot Marmalade or stop by Amy bread for the baguettes. There are no halal options so please eat before you go. If you love Portobello Market in Singapore. You will definitely love this place which is much more bigger and more vendors. Hot hot hot hot day. Today we will continue our trip downtown, will be going to explore Chelsea and followed by walking down Bleecker which we love. But before that, stop to cool down from summer heat out here at food fest out Exxon building. It's not ready yet when we came but the drinks are. Lemonade from Del Frisco's totally perfect for hot sunny days. #delfrisco Strawberry Yuzu from Korilla really hit the spot for me because I love both Strawberry and Yuzu. I think It's a great combo. I watched Great Food Truck show. There's their awesome team called Korilla BBQ in that show. I think they are the same people. #korillabbq There are no halal booth so lunch is from the nearby halal gyro. At $8 it's expensive but yummy. Today we covered Chinatown followed by another trip to Farmers Square at Union Square. There are much to love about markets. The sight, the people, the bustlings, the smell, the colours. With so many vendors around, the art of arranging the produce are equally important. Love how they displayed the fruits and veg in a baskets place side by side. All different colours together. Bryant Park HBO summer Film Festival 2016. From Strand we walked down to NYU. It rained so we thought the movie night will be postponed but by the time we reached PA, the weather cleared. Bryant Park lawn is still closed today. So no picnic on lawn which is pity cos many came well prepared with groundsheet (me me me) blankets and picnic baskets complete with wine glasses and cooler. Picnic on workweek ??? 😱😱😱 Back in our country, ppl would definitely complain long long for organising this on weekday. Anyway. Today is go slow day. We hit the ground running since touched down JFK and I am very sure I had only few hours of sleep. This morning, I got my first food allergy breakout for this trip. No matter how careful one can be, there is no guarantee that you can avoid allergens totally. Mr went off to laundromat and all I had was plain bagel with creamcheese and butter. Within mins hives appeared and went into panic mode because Mr not ard. There are only so much kebab one can eat within short time.. So that's why at times prefer to prepare own food Using vegetarian tomatosoup premix powder. We reached hotel after 2am. After completing all chores and the must do, Mr too tired to walk to Halal Guys cart for gyro. Fortunately I always stock up food for emergencies :-) I got the zucchini from farmers market earlier. I don't have delicate taste.. Taste the same like normal supermarket ones ehhehe The travel stove I'm using is Toyomi brand. It has dual voltage selection. We were quite jet lag. We slept around 9pm earlier and woke up around 2am feeling hungry. Walked to the usual Halal Guy cart which is just a few blocks up. This is our first NYC experience in Summer. Today is 14th of July which coincides with France National Day (Bastille Day) Yesterday, we joined our cousin to a pre Bastille Day dinner with their lovely family friends over at a nearby village Noisy-Rudignon. Although I may not understand a single words of french, they made us feel welcoming and we had a really lovely night. Dinner was long affair starting with hors d'oeuvre of Accra de Morue (taste like jemput2 with fish bits), Salmon cake and Gougeres (cheese cheese profiteroles , Followed by Entree of Grilled Chicken and Lamb and Tabouleh Salas. The lamb is so delicious by the way. So tender. Followed by Cheese Platter and then dessert of yummy Tiramisu and finally Coffee or Tea. After dinner we walked in the dark with torchlight with the rest of them to watch fireworks at a small clearing. There were a few other fireworks around the nearby village. For a small village the fireworks was long and pretty. Longer than our National Day fireworks. A truly great evening indeed. #lizaohlala #blog #lizaohlalavacation2016 #fireworks #bastilleday
