2nd attempt growing sweet basil. I bought a garni last Sun and told Mr to just poke it into the soil last Sunday. Assam Pedas ikan sembilang dan Telur Ikan Tenggiri. Untuk Ulam, Kacang Botol dan Daun Selasih. (Assam Pedas Ikan Sembilang and Fish Roe. Winged Beans and Thai Basil for sides.) Ikan Sembilang.. What can I say. This assam ikan sembilang is our family fav dish. I wonder what did i dreamt off yesterday because I woke up thinking of assam sembilang. 😂😂 And so i dragged Mr to market today and so glad that's it's on sale today. The lady selling it at $8 per kilo. I bought 2 small piece and it cost me only. $5. Cheap i think. Prepping is important for ikan sembilang. This is to get rid of the fishy smell and if its not done properly your whole dish will be ruined. After cleaning and soaking in assam and lime and salt, I spent quite awhile pulling out the white veins from the fish. I always wonder how mom can find the veins easily. Finding the vein part is something i hate bout cooking this fish and which is also why despite this being my fav fish, i only cook this twice out of our 17 years of marriage. I wanted to add Daun Selasih to the gravy but i think Mr would not like the taste.. so i had it as sides together with winged beans. #blog #lunch

Because sudden craving for sticky mango rice... Shortcut version. Only soak the glutinous rice for 1hr plus.. microwave high 3 mins.. stir stir stir. . Microwave again... 3 mins.. stir stir.. check and if need add a bit more water and zapp again. Take care when adding the water.. not too much cause u need to mix the coconut sauce a bit later. You don't want the rice to go pudding like.. #blog #shortcut

Just finished cooking for tomorrow's lunch and i couldn't resist a small bowl. I have a container of slow boiled beef shank in the fridge and it's its packed with collagen. Full of flavour and tender.. Perfect for beef soup. I strained the soup a few times earlier as i want as clear soup as possible. I had my dinner earlier but i can't help myself to a small bowl.. 😂😂 #blog

4 fingers inspired Korean Crispy Wings. I know it's closed to midnight when we reached home but I'm hungry. I have a bowl of marinated wings. While frying the chicken i prepared the sauce. No chopping or blending or pounding so I'm not breaking the no cooking after 8pm ay? Lol I will taste first and if i find it nice i'll post the recipe. I omitted sesame oil ... use soy sparingly here.. #blog #supper

Daging Tetel (Beef Shank) Masak Merah
Tonight I left office at 6:30pm just so I could reach home early before 8:30pm. My emergency meal depleting fast and I don't like going out for lunch so I reminded myself that i must leave office earlier..
Tonight's dinner is daging tetel masak merah. Im a happy girl cos I finished cooking before 8:30pm.. (poke poke hubby..)
Daging tetel or Beef Shank needs long slow cook... I boiled the tetel on low heat for long long long time last Sunday so all I need to do earlier is tumis the rempah and whatnot and stew the meat for another 30mins or so. While stewing, proceed to prep and fry vegs..After years of practice. . You more or less have yr own cheat sheet right?? If can make things easier why not right? #blog

No more cooking after 8:30pm :-(
Mr ban me from cooking after 8:30pm. He said I generated too much noise... He cited last week pounding of sambal belacan at 9pm.. I thought HDB said no noise after 10pm? 9pm still ok right plus i placed many rags underneath the mortar.... Im sure i did not make that much noise.. -> wife logic.. I left office at 8pm tonight, so cooking dinner is out of the question (there goes my daging tetel masak merah that I've been thinking since yesterday) So tonight dinner is Raid The Freezer Night. Last weekend, I cooked extra batch of one pot pasta meal solely for emergency nights. I'm having this with shredded cheddar cheese and sprigs of thai basil or daun selasih which i bought from wet market last Sun and cherry tomatoes.#blog #homecookedfastfood

I'm rarely without my notebook.
I carry one almost all the time. This is where i love to scribble during ME time. The act of scribbling be it nothing legible or notes of some recipes i amended or some knit patterns or funny faces or drawings or just random thoughts. This is one of the many.. but i will be sad if i lose this. This one here has all the often baked amended recipes modified to suit my taste. I meant to blog it somewhere but im just lazy right now. #blog
